Sylph Dance

Now I lay me down to sleep,

Too wander shadows dark and deep.

Hypnos watch my nighttime flight,

and bring me home with dawn’s first light.

As the dreamers lie asleep,

I, into nighttime visions creep.

Whirring wings, a toothy grin,

My dance through drifting minds begins.

Let me lead you, quietly,

Away from dull society.

Through rolling fog and sparkling dust,

Upon the wind, you’ll dance with us.

Night owls watch from swaying trees,

The others swept up in our breeze.

Sleepers from all worlds entranced,

To join us in our midnight dance.

Glassy wings begin to race,

The wind whips up a scorching pace.

Lost among the twisting trees,

The dancers blown about like leaves.

Far below a light appears,

To comfort dizzy dancer’s fears.

They who follow to its den,

Are never seen on Earth again.

Let me lead you quietly,

Away from dull society.

Through rolling fog and sparkling dust,

Upon the wind, you’ll dance with us.

As the dreamers lie asleep,

I into nighttime visions creep.

Whirring wings, a flash of gold,

A sign of death and change behold.

Now I lay you down to sleep,

To wander visions dark and deep.

Dance with moths and leaping fauns,

Till Eos brings the gentle dawn.
